The other day I was reminded of how easy it is to get so absorbed in our personal lives that we forget the struggles and needs of others. I recently received a ton of new responsibilities at work, and I’ve been consumed with mastering those tasks (at the expense of my sanity at times). The other day I was in a local Dollar Store, and the line took unusually long to die down. I mumbled several times under my breath about incompetent both the cashier and the other patrons must be. Once I reached the register, I found the kindest elderly lady who was doing her best to ring up patrons while ignoring her own fatigue (and she was clearly tired). When I reached the register, I was reminded to think about HER needs: like a bottle of bottle of water and a snack. Though I was ashamed of my immediate judgment, I was grateful for that moment of humility
I’m sure I’m not the only one who needs constant reminders to think less about myself and more about others.
Today I’m partnering with Jeweler’s Mutual Insurance, the premier jewelry insurance company, to encourage all of us to BAND TOGETHER to give back to our local communities and those we may never meet. Read on for 3 easy ways you can begin serving others TDAY (not tomorrow, fellow procrastinators).
