If the Proverbs 31 woman is any indication, being a virtuous woman (and a wise modest fashionista) entails much more than dressing appropriately and covering your skin. We are also encouraged to make adequate preparations for the future and exercise spending decisions. A good (and fun!) way to do both? Take advantage of holiday sales and other heavy sales periods. The post-holiday shopping season always features great sales as retailers try to clear their old inventory to make room for new, but — due to lackluster holiday and 4th quarter sales throughout the retail industry — many retailers are discounting their products more aggressively than in years past. Retailers have become so promotion-heavy that there is no point in buying clothes at retail price these days, as they will likely go on sale the same week.
By taking advantage of these wonderful sales, you can prepare for next winter by replacing your busted coats from this winter for a fraction the original cost; or you can prepare for the upcoming spring season by buying warm weather items while they are on sale (like denim shirts which are on sale for $29 at Urban Outfitters). Just dont get SO excited about saving money that you go over your budget…(ahem, note to self.)
If you’re unlike me and hate online shopping or scouring the net for good deals, I’ve got you covered. Here is my rundown of good holidays sales:
Aritzia – 20-50% off all winter items
Ann Taylor – extra 50% off all sale items
Ann Taylor Loft – 50% select new, full-price items
Banana Republic – 30% off ALL items, including sale items
C Wonder – 50% off all sale
Gap — 30% off all sale. Ends 1/15.
J. Crew – Extra 30% off final sale. Ends 1/20. (This is one of my favorite bands and, of course, one the least affordable. When jcrew has sales, I jump on them right away. Right now, they are offering 30% off sale which can add up to 75% off retail price for many items.)
J. Crew Factory – Extra 30% off final sale
Madewell – Extra 30% off sale. Ends 1/15.
Zara – Practically everything is on sale, but beware — Zara’s idea of a sale can sometimes mean knocking 20 bucks off retail price and putting a flashy red tag on the new price.
Urban Outfitters – While the majority of UO’s offerings are the opposite of modest, they do have some GREAT sales with clothing I can wear, like this lightweight coat I got for $20 (marked down from $129).
Intermix – Extra 40-50% off all sale
Gilt – 50% off with code My50
Pixie Market – $20$30$40 sale
Scoop NYC – Extra 40% off all sale
Steve Madden – 40% off all boots
