Friends, I have a confession to make: I really don’t like shopping at thrift stores. I don’t mind getting pre-loved clothes at fantastic prices (that’s why I frequent Poshmark). I DO mind how cluttered and unorganized most thrift stores are. Shopping is somewhat therapeutic for me, and I find zero comfort in sifting through piles of unsorted and racks of goods. But you know what I surprisingly do like? SAMPLE SALES. If you’ve never gone to a physical sample sale, you’re depriving yourself of a great (and sometimes entertaining) bargain hunting experience.
One of my latest sample sale acquisitions is this darling Rebecca Minkoff maxi dress that originally retailed for $448.00 (!!! I don’t know WHO in their right mind would pay such a price for any dress). Wanna know what I got it for? 75 bucks. That’s still a bit expensive for me, but totally worth it for this well-made dress. The digital mixed prints and the subdued colors make it a versatile dress that can be worn in any season. In fact, I’ve been wearing it consistently since I purchased it in July. The layers of airy georgette fabric give it an almost ethereal essence. I literally feel like I’m gliding as I walk when I wear this beauty. I actually have another sample sale find in this photo: The purple Clare V foldover clutch that typically retails for $235.00. I got it for $80.
True, both purchases were not cheap. My philosophy: you can spend a bunch of money on cheaper clothes, or you can splurge on a few well-made, beautiful pieces that you can wear everywhere.
If you’re new to the same sale scene and need a few good resources, here are my go-to sites for sample updates:
- Racked
- Refinery 29
- Warehouse Weekends
- Sole Society’s Mailing List (I scored the leopard pumps in this post for $30)
- Cooper Building Mailing List
Or you can skip the lines and shop the outfit here:

As always you look beautiful and I myself if fortunate would spend money on higher end quality clothes; however it is a extra blessing to pay over half price for quality clothes…little splurges and luxuries are sometimes a need indeed…it’s good to treat yourself if able from time to time xx

Living in SoCal, we’ve got some great sample sales. I drive a lot of for work so I rarely want to drive out to LA where all the great sample sales are. Love your dress and a great price you paid for it!
Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you next week.

> Happiness at Mid LifeThanks, Alice! Driving to sample sales is definitely a pain, but depending on the brand it can be totally worth it!

I’m a huge Poshmark groupie myself and have scored many a bargain on the app which is a boon considering that sample sales aren’t quite the norm here in Houston. Or either they are and I’ve been living under a rock GRIN which could very well be. In other news, your dress is magnificent. Simply magnificent.
