You probably read the title of this post and thought, “Uh, dressy sweatpants? That’s an oxymoron.” Yea, I thought so too! That is, until I found these lovely sweats at H&M last year. They have a slightly slouchy fit, which makes them SUPER comfy, but the textured fabric and tailored cut makes them more sophisticated than regular gym sweats. They can be dressed up, as I did with this lovely embellished and quilted top from Zara, and they can also be worn casually with a half-tucked white oxford– either way, they look effortlessly cool. I’m all about looking polished while being comfortable. Safe to say I’m satisfied with this $30 purchase!

Where can you wear this kind of outfit? Well I wore this exact outfit to work several formal gatherings (and I secretly hoped no one would notice how often I wore it…). I also wore the sweatpants with a plain cotton t-shirt or chambray shirt to run errands and just be a bum on the weekends. There are so many possibilities with dressy sweats.

And I have to talk about this Zara top for a moment. Most people don’t believe me when I tell them I bought it at Zara. The quilted details and quality of the rhinestones are more than most expect from a fast fashion retailer. But Zara truly did an excellent job with this top. It’s probably the most high maintenance top I own (it’s dry-clean only. Ugh.) and I’m terrified of getting stains on it, but it’s hands down my favorite Zara top. Sadly, this particular top is no longer sold in stores, BUT I found some pretty cute alternatives for you to check out here (all under $100):

And if you’re in the market for dressy sweat pants, here are some of my picks (all of which are also under $100):

(Quick tip: Besides H&M, J. Crew has the best dressy sweatpants. Don’t let the sticker price stop you. You can snag a pair for cheap during one of J. Crew’s many 40-50% off sale price promotions. You just have to be patient and diligent, my friend.)

So, what do you think? Yay or Nay to the sweatpants look, and would you try it yourself?

I’m loving the pants! My sister has been all about the dressy joggers, and I might just be convinced now 🙂 I’m not a big fan of dressing up, but if you can be comfortable while doing it, no complaints here! Visiting from The Peony Project post share!

Hi Becky! I’m definitely with your sister (and I LOVE that you called them joggers). And I agree with you — I have no complaints if I can dress up while being comfortable. Thanks for visiting!
