Ah, summer. In two short months, summer will be a reality, and I’m already dreaming of the travels in store. First stop: Chicago. Second stop: Cuba (if you’ve been to Cuba before, pleaseee let me know! I have a million questions for you!).
You know what I desperately need for those trips? A practical purse that I can easily tote around during my explorations! Having worked at Coach for a few years, I have a healthy collection of black bags. Unfortunately, none of those bags are suitable for travel and I didn’t have the foresight to get multicolored bags…or bags of any color beyond teal and blue.
Thankfully the good folks at mywalit came to my rescue and offered me an opportunity to review a bag from their vibrant new Rio collection. Read on for my honest thoughts on the Rio Flapover.
About the Company
Mywalit is a multicolor leather goods brand founded in Lucca, Italy in 2005. If my bag is any indication, this brand specializes in creative, colorful purses, handbags, briefcases and accessories made of premium leather.
What I love
The leather – My favorite feature of this bag is the leather. It’s buttery smooth all over. According to mywalit’s description, this bag is made of “exclusive Bol leather.” I’m not sure what that is, but it sounds fancy.
The details – I’m a sucker for bags with simple designs and intricate details. From the purple cross-body strap to the teal knot details on the front flap, there are several fun surprises in the construction of this bag. Oh, there’s a small pocket on the inside for small valuables. So thoughtful!
Usage – Aside from the color (more on that below), this is an ideal bag for trips to places with warm climates (like…Rio). You obviously can’t transport all of your belongings in this one bag, but it’s perfect for toting around while you’re exploring your new surroundings. It also transforms into a clutch if you stuff the crossbody strap inside (like I did in the second pic).
What I Like
The price – At $149 a pop, I was prepared to declare this bag too expensive. But the price is very fair given the quality and size (you can fit a small iPad in the main compartment).
Easy to clean – I’ll admit I’m. The site claims, but I will have to test this claim with my Coach cleaner and then update this review later.
What I don’t love
At first, I didn’t love the color. I gravitate towards neutral and black accessories that can be worn with most of the items in my closet (like this clutch and the black sandals I’ve worn here). But this Copacabana-colored beauty grew one me – mostly because of how soft it is. It’s not as easy to style as, say, a blue or black purse, but it’s a refreshing burst of color in my neutral wardrobe.
Is this Bag for you?
This purse is ideal for you if you: a) love color and find ways to rock it in your everyday wardrobe, b) have travel plans to a warm climate this summer and are looking for a fun bag to take along, and c) you are my mom. Seriously, she took this purse from me as soon as I wrapped up this shoot.
If you do get a Rio bag, here’s here I recommend wearing this
1) With a colorful floral outfit (like the one I wore above).
2) With a plan white or cream-colored outfit – this bag will bring a welcomed pop of color for neutral outfits.

Elizabeth
> Jodie filogomoThe color has definitely grown on me. The only other colored bags I own are teal and dark purple, and I hardly use them. So the orange was quite a shock, but now I’m loving it. It’s so fun!

SO pretty!! I love that bag. I used to have a bright orange hobo bag that was my go-to summer bag. I wore it out but it was absolutely the best.
Elizabeth

That’s a very cute outfit. I love orange. I have very light skin and most shades of orange look pretty good on me except “neon.” The orange also looks great with your skin tone, so I think orange is probably great for everybody!
Elizabeth
> ChristenThat’s an excellent point, Christen! I never considered orange to be a universally flattering color, but you may be onto something…

Love this look! And although the bag is a little pricey, I always think about cost per wear when buying an item. Yes, it’s $149, but will you wear it that many times or at least half of that? Then I think it’s worth it! 🙂
Thanks for sharing!

Creative and colorful briefcases, and the other options, sound like a wonderful way to resolve the office dilemma. Looking at the quality and size when evaluating the cost of the purse is a smart way to go about evaluating the price.
