No joke — I had my eyes on this unique maxi dress for over a year before I finally received it. Something about the splash print and silhouette captivated me instantly. I originally saw this dress on Mode-sty, and I was dismayed when my size sold out (like the penny pincher I am, I waited for it to go on sale). Thankfully, the good folks at Choies offered to let me pick a few items from their site, and I made a digital beeline for this dress. And I’m SO glad I did. If you want to learn more about this beauty, read on for my full review:
Fit
As a huge fan of flowy maxi dresses with defined waists, I LOVE the way this splash print maxi dress fit. Based on the sizing chart, I chose the medium size just to be safe. It fits wonderfully (and it’s not too tight). It’s also easy to get into because of the hidden side zipper.
I continue to believe that maxi dresses with defined waists are flattering on most body shapes, so I’m confident you’ll love the fit of this dress too. I should mention that such maxi dresses aren’t just for tall people. I’m 5’3 and I’m wearing 3″ heels with this dress; not tall by any means. My one piece of advice: If you have a large bust, size up!
Quality
This dress is made of 100% polyester which made me nervous. However, I must say I’m pleasantly surprised with the quality of this dress. The material is sturdy and the stitching throughout the dress was professionally executed. The obvious plus is the unique splash print that is also well done. Both my mom (who’s a seamstress) and I searched for obvious errors and found none.
Price
At $47.90 for the dress with free shipping (Choies offers free shipping on all items), the price for this dress is VERY reasonable. Even better: Choie’s frequently has flash sales and promotions. Right now you can get 15% off your entire purchase when you create a new account on their site.
Where + How to Wear It
With a dress this cool and chic, you don’t have to accessorize much. You can throw on a straw sun hat and sandals for a casual look like I did, or you can dress it up with a statement necklace and chic belt. You can also easily wear this easy breezy maxi to stroll the streets of Venice, CA just as you can wear it to a derby or polo match (you fancy thing, you).
Delivery + Customer Service
Choies is based in China, and that’s reflective in the shipping period, which is typically 15-20 days with regular shipping. Of course, you can purchase expedited shipping for $15 to receive your order within 4-10 business days. I chose the regular (and free) shipping option, and my items arrived within — ahead of schedule! Unfortunately, Choies’ packaging leaves much to be desired as it’s very basic. Aside from those minor issues, I was happy to receive my items before the anticipated delivery date and in great condition.
Another aspect I like about Choies is that the customer service team is very responsive. My emails were answered within 24 hours. The quick response time makes up for the lack of packaging in my book.
Overall, I’m thrilled about my first Choies order and pleasantly surprised with the quality of the items. It’s going to take a lot of restraint to not order TOO frequently. 😉

The Comments
Elizabeth Williams
I’ve heard a lot about Choies, but didn’t know if they were any good! I’m always a little iffy about stuff overseas, because I ordered something from a Chinese company before and was so impressed with the price, but realized when I got the item that it was such poor quality 🙁 I’m always iffy about ordering online anyways! lol Oh, and I added my last name to the comment instead of just “Elizabeth” because I didn’t want your readers to be confused with you and me! lol
Elizabeth
> Elizabeth WilliamsI completely understand the hesitation! I honestly was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this dress (and fully prepared to write a less than favorable review if it didn’t meet my expectations). If you ever purchase from Choies, I suggest paying attention to the reviews on the website (their customers are very vocal). This dress had phenomenal views, so I was pretty confident it would be nice.
Leslie
Too cute! I’m only about 5’3″ too but I think I’d have to have it hemmed since I can do heals some but not too much for waltzing around the city. This dress is gorgeous on you.
Elizabeth
> LeslieThank you so much, sweet Leslie! That’s a great idea! Honestly, if I wasn’t so lazy, I would hem it too. I was also super anxious to wear it. Teehee 🙂
Alecz

I love, love, love this dress! The blue splatters are so unique! And the white and blue look gorgeous with your skin tone 🙂
I’ve never heard of Choies before, but wow, those prices are insane!! Love the pink midi skater skirt, and the white sakura skater skirt. In fact, I’m pretty sure I have that pink one floating around on my Pinterest board somewhere. I must get on this (read: someday far in the future when I actually have money). Ha!
Elizabeth
> Erin RebarHaha, I completely understand, Erin! When I first saw this dress on another site, it cost $79, and I was like, “No way. I’ll wait till that goes on sale.”
Thank you so much for the love, Erin! You’re always so supportive. I appreciate you, girl!

Ashley LaMar
LOVE!!! Do you think it would work for shorties like me? At 5’1″ I really struggle with finding maxi dresses that fit.
Elizabeth
> Ashley LaMarAh! Forgive me, friend. I just saw your comment! I’m only 5’3, so we’re shorties together. You would have to hem this dress for a proper fit, but it can absolutely work. Another important factor is your body shape. Do you mind I ask what your primary shape is?

This dress is gorgeous. I’d almost be tempted to take them apart so I’d have both the shirt and skirt to wear separately—since they almost look like separates! jodie

Sarah @ Foxy's Domestic Side
I’ve never heard of them, their clothes are gorgeous and at a pretty good price point too! Found you through Lizzie in Lace featuring you. Going to go check them out right now. By the way, how tall are you? Just so I can get a height in mind for length. Fairly certain I’ll have to hem at least 6 inches off, haha! #shortpeopleproblems
Elizabeth
> Sarah @ Foxy’s Domestic SideHahaha! Your hashtag is great and so real. Thanks for the love, Sarah! I’m 5’3, so I’m definitely a shortie. I had to hem about 4 inches off so I could wear this dress with heels. Thankfully it’s easy to hem! If you do go for it, I’m sure you’ll LOVE it (once it’s hemmed).
Teri
I love that hat and the dress is straight FIRE! Makes me glad spring is looming. 🙂
Elizabeth
> TeriAw, thanks, Teri! You are the sweetest. And YES! So happy spring is near. I’m even looking forward to the time change! 😀
