Headband: Sole Society (similar here) // Rings: Natalie B
I know what you thinking. Another white dress on Downtown Demure, Liz? How original. OK, I’ll admit I have an unhealthy obsession with white dress, particularly white maxi dress in the summer, but I simply couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to get a kimono-sleeved maxi dress (because I also have a thing for kimono sleeves). I was recently introduced to GCGme – an affordable evening wear and contemporary clothing website — and I couldn’t wait to try one of their dresses. A few weeks I ago I received what I have affectionately dubbed as my choir robe dress. Read on for my honest review.
What I Love
The banded elastic waist – I’m so glad this dress has a defined waist and a belt to add further definition to your shape. That’s the kind of silhouette that’s flattering on many body shapes. Also, the elastic waist is very forgiving and good for women in the early stages of pregnancy (or for when you are nursing a food baby and just can’t bother to suck it in.) 😉
The flow – I’m a sucker for a flowy dress. The natural movement of this dress lends an ethereal quality to it that is quite flattering, particularly when walking.
The color – No shocker there since I’ve already professed my love for white dresses (they are so chic!).
Easy to Accessorize – This dress has enough drama on its own, so I didn’t need to do much to complete the outfit. I opted for a straw clutch and jeweled headband.
Free shipping – The price of this dress is $69.90 (the average on GCGme seems to be $50-$60), which is a competitive price for an evening dress. What really sold me is the free shipping!
What I don’t love
The sleeves – There’s simply too much fabric and the kimono silhouette isn’t distinct enough. I think that’s why this dress feels like a choir robe to me. I wish I opted for a thin-sleeved maxi dress to balance out the volume on the bottom half of the dress.
The fabric – the dress is described as an “evening maxi dress;” however, the choice of fabric (polyester spandex) doesn’t reflect that. This dress is more suitable for a semi-casual daytime gathering. If this dress were made of poly chiffon or Georgette it would’ve been much more suitable for dressy evening events.
Overall fit – I also have to admit that I don’t think this dress is a good choice for anyone petite because the amount of fabric on this dress will overwhelm your small frame.
Overall, this dress was not a complete winner for me, and I wish I opted for a less dramatic and more wearable choice. While this dress may not work for me, I plan to try one of these beauties in the future:
Friends, what do you think of this dress ? Are you feeling the kimono sleeve trend?

Hahaha you say choir robe, I say Grecian goddess, Liz, but yes, I agree, that fabric cheapens the overall look somewhat. And I do think white might not have been the best colour, perhaps a blush or an off white maybe. All things said and done, it’s actually looking quite charming on you 🙂
Speaking of charming, my link-up is now live and I would so love it if you’d come over, Liz, I don’t think anyone has seen a dress of this cut and style recently, and it’d be wonderful to share it with the world 🙂

I think this looks really pretty on you! But I can also see how this could be a bit overwhelming with so much fabric- that aside it look so COMFY! I think you pull it off really well 🙂

I didn’t even realize until just now that you do wear a lot of white! lol The dress looks lovely on you, and I do love kimono sleeves! However, this dress isn’t my style, and I’m not always a fan of kimono sleeves, just according to how they’re made 🙂
Elizabeth
> Elizabeth WilliamsI’m with you, friend. I love a dress with flattering kimono sleeves. This dress isn’t quite my style either, but thank you so much for the compliments!
